Luminaria - REMEMBER Ceremony - Saturday, 9pm SLT (Pacific)

The REMEMBER Ceremony will be held at 9pm SLT on Saturday, June 7, 2025.  It is a very moving time at the Relay.

During this hour-long ceremony, the track falls into darkness and silence, with everyone on all of the Relay regions asked to not chat in open text or local open voice chat, for all activities and events to cease, and for all attendees to walk the track in silence or to stand in quiet respect alongside the track. Music will play and names of those we remember will be read. 

The Remember Ceremony - also known as the Ceremony of Hope or Luminaria Ceremony - is a reminder of why we Relay. It is a time to remember those we have lost to Cancer.  It is a time to pay tribute to men, women, and children around the world whose lives have been affected by this disease.  It is a time for each of us to reflect on how this disease has touched us personally.  It is a time for us to look inside ourselves with quiet reflection and find hope.  Because no matter what our experience has been with cancer, we all share the hope that we will one day live in a world where our children, and their children, will never have to hear the words "you have cancer".

Each luminaria that lights our path on the track represents a person.  Surviving or deceased, each one has a unique story to tell of their own personal cancer journey.

                        ***  HOW TO LIGHT A LUMINARIA  ***

Each Luminaria (the lanterns lining the entire track) is set to receive donations starting at a donation level of $L 50.  You can light a luminaria at any time once the regions are open right up to and through the ceremony itself (and until relay ends). When a donation is made by paying the luminaria,  you will have the opportunity to enter the name of the person you wish to remember. This is optional.  The luminaria will change colors based upon the amount donated according to the following levels:

$L 50 to $L 499               Yellow

$L 500 to $L 999             Green

$L 1000 to $L 2499          Blue

$L 2500 to $L 4999          Orange

$L 5000 to $L 9999          Pink

$L 10,000 or more           Purple 


When donating to a luminaria, a box will appear asking if you would like to dedicate In Memory or In Honor. Once you choose one if you want, another  box will appear on your screen where you can type the name or message.  Once you have completed, you will see the text hovering above the luminaria.  

Default amounts set on the luminaria can be typed over so you can choose your donation level.

Please note that the Luminaria will accept any donation amount, but will only light up with a minimum single donation of $L 50.
